We sat down with Carter Boyle<\/a>, Account Manager at Weidmann Electrical Technology, to discuss his role, the rapid growth of the transformer industry, and how Weidmann supports its customers through innovation and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hi Carter, please tell us about your role at Weidmann<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an Account Manager, I get to interface with a lot of people, especially on the customer side. I work closely with their management, procurement, engineering, and quality teams to handle issues, opportunities, and new business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all the information I gather from customers, I can more effectively communicate with my internal Weidmann teams. We have senior management evaluating where to invest next, a technical and innovation team helping design transformers and improve insulation systems, and our quality and manufacturing teams planning and scheduling production for customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What have you found interesting about your role that you didn’t expect?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m constantly surprised by how complex paper and paper products can be. It\u2019s fascinating to see the rapid growth our customers are experiencing. Utilities need far more transformers than they did ten years ago, and many are planning new factories and expansions. Weidmann plays a key role in supporting that growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before joining Weidmann, I worked on the utility side of the business, but I didn\u2019t realize how quickly the transformer industry was expanding. Every time I visit a customer, I hear the same message: \u201cWe\u2019re going to be growing extremely quickly over the next few years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What skills have you developed most since joining Weidmann?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since joining Weidmann, I\u2019ve focused on improving my communication skills, especially around setting expectations internally and with customers. With so many projects underway and weekly updates on improvements, it\u2019s essential to stay in close contact with everyone about what we can deliver. Things can change from week to week, so clarity is critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s your biggest motivation for your role?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an electrical engineer, I\u2019ve always wanted to help keep the power grid running, especially as we move toward renewables and bring more data centers online. The grid is under a lot of stress, and one of the key components of reliability lies inside transformers: the paper insulation. If the insulation fails, the power goes out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s a fun fact that not many people would know about you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of work, I like to take on big adventures each year. This year, on a whim, I decided to go looking for anacondas in the Amazon rainforest. I spent two weeks upriver from any civilization, hiking three times a day and walking through swamps filled with caiman at night. It was an unforgettable experience!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
