Transformer Failure Analysis: Solar Power Plant
A photovoltaic plant connected to the high-voltage (HV) network has experienced more than 30 transformer failures in under six months. Weidmann was engaged to perform a range of services to determine the cause of the failures and suggest corrective action:
Services included:
- Transformer assessment (failure analysis and existing fleet)
- On-site measurements
- Network simulations
- Transformer manufacturer investigation and audit
- Dielectric and moisture tests
Following an extensive investigation and tests performed by Weidmann, the root cause of the problem was identified, and corrective action was taken.
This investigation was awarded Best Paper at the 2016 IEEMA 2nd TRAFOTECH International Conference in New Delhi, India.
